As we talk about teaching English online (TEO), let's first look at some of the basics of teaching English in this way. So, what does TEO generally involve?
Many TEO lessons are one-to-one (one teacher to one student) lessons while others are group lessons where you teach two or more students. They are typically delivered online via platforms such as Skype or Zoom or other similar platforms. Some of the larger companies may have their own internal platforms through which you teach.
TEO allows you to work from anywhere in the world and take command of your own schedule most of the time, which is really what a lot of people want in today's world. Being able to get away from the nine-to-five and just make your schedule and... [Read more]

Paying attention to the big classroom is quite challenging but can be achieved. During my high school days, we were more than 50 in class. Orderliness was almost impossible considering the number of students that didn't receive proper attention. The approach used by my teachers then was effective to a certain extent. The Teacher would call on random individuals to answer questions, especially those that sit at the back( in order to avoid being picked on). The random approach had its disadvantages also, as it created fear in students struggling in his/her studies.

Traveling for me is more than seeing a tourist sight and snapping a picture for your social media. Traveling is the opportunity to explore the world, immerse myself in different cultures and connect with the people of those cultures. Teaching English abroad has allowed me to do just that. There is no one way to teach English online, there are programs where the teacher doesn’t have to do much aside from showing up given that the lessons are pre-planned like with Qkids and VIPKid, which I’ll call company-centered programs because the company sets the curriculum. While other programs, such italki, and Palfish, rely on teacher-created lesson plans, which may be more stressful for the teacher, but ultimately are a great boon for the students they teach as the lessons can be tailored to each student, I’ll refer to them as teacher-centered programs because of that. Each has its merits and I will discuss some of them here for you now.
