The first Waldorf School was founded in 1919 in Stuttgart for the children of the workers in the Waldorf Astoria cigarette factory. The school’s doors were open for all the children regardless of their social status. It was the end of World War I and because of post-war chaos, people were looking for new educational systems. In such an environment, it was not difficult for Waldorf pedagogy to find its place among other reform movements. Today there are more than 1000 Waldorf schools all around the world.

Students need to learn English when they are still young (from 3 years old or even sooner). So why should they learn English as early as possible?

It has already been established that children who learn a language when they are very young have a much better chance of not having a “foreign” accent when speaking another language. Research from a team at the University of Washington, which focuses specifically on childhood speech perception, has noted that as we get older, it is harder to pick up additional languages with native-like pronunciation. Thus, one very compelling reason to start... [Read more]

When I think of my earliest childhood memories, I remember that I used to love to play games in the classroom (charades, 7-up/head down-thumb up, categories, bingo, etc.). Going from a boring ‘copy from the board’ type of class to a competitive, fun and activity-filled class gave me the ability to open my mind, so I could find the subject being taught more interesting and made it easier for me to absorb the information. Young learners may not have an interest in studying because they don’t yet have any motivation from learning, so they are only interested in games, songs, and other fun activities. When playing most of the games in the classroom, young learners are compelled to communicate with each other for the game to be able to work, and... [Read more]

Throughout the modern and ancient world, across all cultures and empires, generations have been inspired, entertained and educated through the process of storytelling.
Before such modern practices of documentation, word of mouth was used to keep the spirit of generations alive, these served as a purpose of entertainment, education, cultural preservation and to instill a sense of morality into their young. Since the written word, our desire for storytelling has evolved and allowed us to reach and inspire further audiences on paper.

When a child is born, parents are their first teachers and the people responsible for educating their children in the first few years of their lives. Young children pick up on the gestures, phrases, words, manners, etc., that their parents use every day, which in a sense, makes the parent the first teacher a child has. This is the parent's job until the children are enrolled in a school program. When the child enters a school program, the educator's main role is no longer on the parents. Instead, parents have a new partner, the teacher; however, the parent's job is not finished. It is only changing. Just because the parent's job modifies when the child is enrolled in a school program doesn't mean that their involvement... [Read more]

As a child, my mother dropped me off at school every morning before she goes to work. I would go throughout my day at school and stay in the after school programs until my mother picked me up late in the afternoon. Like many other single mothers, my mother had to work a lot like to support the family. I grew up going to school and doing my homework to the best of my abilities without the extra encouragement from a parent. My mother would ask if I did my schoolwork and I would tell her that it was done at school. Since she was very busy working she trusted in the school to do their job in educating me and she trusted me to do my part in my education.

How can a parent help an ESL teacher to facilitate the quality of English learning of their children, which was always debatable, has now become more controversial? Some people assert that parents should give their children enough space or even leave them alone to have them develop without restriction, as they believe children need their room to grow up and experience something new. However, from my perspective, parents’ involvements are considerably crucial for ESL children’s development. To better articulate my reasoning, the relevant arguments will be elaborated as follow.

Teaching English online is a huge growing market in today’s globalized society. According to the British Council, there are over a billion people who are learning English (750 million English as a foreign language learners and 350 million English as a second language learner). The difference between EFL and ESL learners is that EFL learners live in a country where the language of the community is not English and English is used by a learner in rare instances such as for business or pleasure; while ESL learners live where English is either a primary language or has an established role in the society and the language is used daily.

It is known that music has deep psychological effects on us. After all, the human ear is the first sense to develop. That's why many pediatricians recommend classical music (specifically Mozart) even when the baby is in the womb. Neurotransmitters are stimulated and connections are done effectively, which increases cognitive abilities. A study showed that “elementary school students who listened to mood-calming music while completing mathematical problems were able to complete more problems and solve a higher percentage of them correctly than the group... Stories are universal. They have existed in every culture and every period is known to modern man.
