Here we will look at the best government programs for teaching in Europe. We will mention five different programs in no particular order.
The first one is France and the first program is TAPIF ( Teaching Assistant Program In France) so this is a government initiative that places applicants into French state schools to work as teaching assistants. This program has been around for a long time, it's a great opportunity to live and work in France.
France is a country where long-stay visas can be difficult to secure for non-EU citizens, so if you don't have an EU passport then the TAPIF program can be a great way to get your foot into Europe. The website you need to apply through is tapif.org. If you want to learn more about that you can visit that website and... [Read more]

Before we think about motivation, we have to look at the reason and motives of "why" and "how" to motivate students. It is one of the most important things to consider when teaching students who are about to learn something new for the first time. There is an infinite number of ways to motivate students, whether it is to give them rewards or to motivate them through praising.

Speaking and writing are the two productive skills taught in the classroom. Although they both are developed in different ways, they are used to measure the communication competence that the students have. However, most of the times teachers and students cannot get the most out of these productive skills. Let´s take a look at techniques from experience that can help us develop these skills efficiently with students.

Circle time can start at the beginning of the day as it is a great way to greet students and set goals for the day. Teachers can have a specific space in the classroom for circle time. Some have rugs and give each student a specific place to sit down.

One emerging field of work is teaching business English. When teaching business English, there are both pros and cons. To mention a couple in each category; one pro is the vast knowledge of information students will hold in their particular field. Another pro is that typically business English students are adults so behavioral issues will be less common. One con that is that since you are teaching in a workplace students may become unavailable when issues arise or if the company schedules them for meetings during the time allotted for training. Another con is that not everyone’s job inside a company is the same; therefore, what may be a priority learning point for some will not be for others.

For many parents this way of teaching is very convenient – the children stay at home, don’t skip classes because of getting a little sick or because of unfavorable weather conditions. You know we can't deny the role of parents in education for children. Parental encouragement and support for learning activities at home combined with parental involvement in schooling are critical to children’s education. A growing body of research shows that building effective partnerships between parents, families, and schools to support children’s learning leads to improved learning outcomes. Parents are the first and continuing educators of their children. Research also shows that teacher quality, including standards and training in parental engagement, is important for facilitating effective parental engagement.

I have already been in contact with the university and have “passed” the initial interview. I have done a lot of unpaid volunteer teaching, tutoring, and mentoring some of which have included English language learning. I have mostly worked with young children or adults. This time around I will be working with young adults. I am nervous but also very excited for the experience. I am looking forward to the chance to test the knowledge I have learned in this course and develop my skills specifically as an English teacher.

It is important to know what is to be done when half of your class speaks a different language. And being a teacher of English, it is almost impossible to communicate with your students in more than one language at the same time especially when trying to communicate different ideas. This can be very confusing for the students and create disorder in the classroom. By teaching a linguistically diverse classroom the teacher may face some challenges along the way such as reading and writing as well as speaking and listening. However, there do exist some methods that can help the teacher make the learning process much more beneficial to the students.

The term, “Motivation” may be defined in several ways. Let’s offer as an example; in a scenario where you have a seller of a property as well as a buyer, a “motivated seller” is one that has extraneous and urgent causes, outside of the expected reasons for selling that property. The seller has, perhaps a timeline for selling that is extremely tight, or short. With the revelation of a “motivated seller” to the buyer, it may imply that the buyer may be able to offer less money or attain more personally favorable terms than he or she could have from someone not listed as “motivated.” The seller has undisclosed (or perhaps disclosed) reasons for wanting to sell their property as quickly as possible. The seller is willing to negotiate.... [Read more]

Confidence is a feeling of self-assurance from believing in one’s own abilities or qualities. It is indispensable if we want to succeed in doing anything, and learning English is no exception. Confidence enhances performance, making learning less stressful and remembering what is learned a lot easier. It gives English learners the courage to explore and discover the language with or without teachers. Confident learners are not afraid of making mistakes or challenging themselves. All these lead to success eventually, not only for the learners but also for the teachers. Therefore, ESL/EFL teachers (teachers) need to build confidence in students.

The four basic language skills are divided into two categories; the receptive (“passive”) skills — reading and listening, and the productive (“active”) skills — speaking and writing. All are invaluable skills to learn when becoming proficient in a new foreign language and teachers should try to incorporate them into their lessons whenever possible. However, this summative task will be solely focused on receptive skills and how to teach them in the classroom. Students may need to read/listen for a purpose — for example, reading an extract of a book as part of their homework assignment, or they may want to read/listen for entertainment — for example, listening to their favorite audiobook. These skills are also important to learn for a... [Read more]

As an assistant language teacher half into my fourth year, I have had the rare chance to work the entirety of my time in one elementary school where I have had many great memories. However, being present every day I began to notice that some students were struggling or in some cases, not even trying when it came to English class. Talking with my peers and colleagues from other elementary schools as well as my own, there are some common problems that many students seem to experience in an English class. These problems include learning in a counter-productive environment, inconsistent exposure to the language, and a lack of... [Read more]

Early in the course, we learn that about key characteristics of good teachers and good learners. A good teacher will have the ability to motivate their students while a good learner will be motivated to learn the English language and be engaged with the coursework. Naturally, adult learners have chosen to learn the language based on their interests while young learners are more likely to be placed in your course from parents or external pressures. The motivated student has a greater chance of success than a student without motivation and so identifying methods to keep these younger learners engaged and ready to learn is of great benefit to you as a teacher.

Teachers are people who help, motivate, and encourage students to acquire knowledge. Their role in society should not be underestimated, as they tend to have a significant influence on student achievement, discipline, and overall intelligence. Many personality characteristics can be linked with a good teacher, such as their ability to be kind, patient, lively, knowledgeable, and caring amongst many other things. Their primary role in the classroom, however, should be to effectively encourage learning. Almost everyone can name a teacher who stands out amongst the rest not because they gave easy A’s, but rather due to their ability to fully engage and inspire their class.
