Teaching Skills as a Central Point of Your ESL Career
Over the years of teaching, I have had the experience to work with many teachers from all over the world. I have worked with teachers in music, English, art, and other fields in education. Because of this, I have been exposed to different types of teaching styles used in the educational field. There have been styles that are excellent in delivering a lesson that students learn and understand. I have also seen teaching styles that are not the best and it has left many students confused and in the disarray of the lesson they just sat through. Through the level of experience I have been exposed to I concluded that it is highly important that teachers study and continue to learn new teaching skills throughout their careers. This keeps them up to date with the up and coming generation that teachers are going to teach. I feel it is very important for teachers to be able to relate to their students in some form of fashion and by doing this you can establish a good rapport with your students.

By establishing a good rapport with your students you are connecting with them on a level of student and mentor rather than a student and teacher. By viewing it this way students will feel more relaxed and more open to put forth an effort in the classes and this will help the teacher in delivering a strong and powerful lesson. The teacher will also have to make sure that he or she is qualified to teach as well. Continuing education is important and teachers should want to go to workshops to learn from other teachers' experiences. Learn from others so that educators can take the knowledge that they learn and shape it in a way that is their style and use that knowledge to enhance their teaching skills in the classroom. I feel very strongly about this because I am talking from experience that has positive results. Teachers should have the motivation and drive to want to make themselves the best teacher possible. Not for self-gain, but for the benefit of the students. A teacher should not want to cheat the students and a good teacher will make sure they have enough knowledge to feel confident in teaching. Students should come to class knowing that they are going to leave with the knowledge that they gained from a teacher who invested time within him/herself to give the students the best education they can receive. This is not only for English teachers but teachers in any field. This is a process that all teachers can take part in. Just because we have a college degree or some job teaching does not mean that we should stop learning. We continue to learn from our students and other teachers' experiences.
