Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.
I have learnt that when teaching grammar it will be important to keep it simple and clear and not to overload the students with too much information in one session but to break it up with word games, repetition, and audio play. I believe it will be important for the students to really get a good feel for the language by learning to hear the difference. In this unit I learned about two equally important receptive skills - speaking and writing, and how best to teach them to my students. The unit also explained different kinds of specialist skills whilst reading or listening, giving me all examples. It also presented an outline of a typical receptive skills lesson which was very useful and to the point.
