TEFL Courses in granada | Spain

Our tefl certification course in granada is magical. The city and surrounding area is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites and home to the majestic Alhambra Palace. Added to this, it’s the former capital of Moorish Spain and the Moors’ influences can be seen everywhere. From monuments and churches to homes and palaces, history and intrigue will surround you every day of your stay.

Despite its growth, granada has retained its ancient charm. It is also a popular university town with a vibrant nightlife to compliment its variety of eateries, theaters and pubs. Located in the Andalucía region and nestled between the Costa del Sol and the Sierra nevada Mountains, granada is also geographically unique.

Our trainees will never run out of things to do or see. Opportunities for skiing, trekking, or just soaking up the sun await anyone who arrives. It would take much more than a month of weekend explorations just to scratch granada’s surface.

The surrounding area includes Cordoba and its ancient Roman ruins, as well as the awe inspiring Mesquitta—a former cathedral that was turned into the world’s largest mosque in the 14th century. There’s also nearby Malaga—the birth place of Picasso.

And who can forget about the local cuisine? Go anywhere in Spain and it would be difficult to find fresher, more diverse food options--enjoy gazpacho, tapas, chorizo and paella while washing it down with local wines or a crisp Spanish lager. Come to granada and you’ll see for yourself just how much this wonderful region has to offer.

All of granada’s offerings combine with our professional training and make this a prime location for gaining tefl certification.

The School

Our course in Granada is based in the Arabic quarter of the city known as the Albayzin. The training facility itself is located in a whitewashed Carmen style building which is typically Moorish in style. Such Carmens abound in this region and harbour cool interiors with patios housing water fountains and secret gardens. The whole area is a traffic free zone which means that the cobbled streets, plazas and fountains remain picturesque and relatively peaceful. The area borders the Alhambra Palace which has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status in its own right.

In keeping with the style of the Albayzin, the building housing our training facility has a beautiful garden. Facilities available to our students include a number of modern classrooms, a computer room, wireless internet connection and a coffee shop. We aim to provide everything that you will need by way of resources and materials to successfully complete our course.

As the Arabic quarter is based on a hill, the ten minute walk to the centre of town from our training facility will seem effortless and will afford you the opportunity to take in the atmosphere of the town. The walk back up the hill will be somewhat more energetic and will take in the region of 15 minutes. In our opinion it is much better to make the return journey by using one of the buses which take this route regularly.

  • What travel documents will I need for spain?

Expand thin line on white background

All non-EU visitors to Spain are required to have a passport valid for at least six months after their arrival date. Visitors to Spain (provided that they stay for no more than 90 days) from the following countries do NOT need a visa:

Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, Japan, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, United States of America, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Furthermore, all citizens of the countries included in the European Union, per the Schengen Agreement, do not need a visa to enter Spain. They do, however, need an identity document and we recommend they bring their passport as well.

Citizens from all other countries should contact their local Spanish consulate to obtain current travel regulations.*

    * As this information is subject to change at any time, we advise everyone to contact their local Spanish consulate for current travel regulations prior to planning their trip.

  • What is the course schedule?

Expand thin line on white background

The first session starts on Monday at 9:00 a.m. sharp.

You will receive a course timetable on the first day of the course. The timetable is subject to change depending on holidays and other considerations.

Trainees must attend all sessions included on the timetable unless they are sick and require medical treatment. This is particularly important for Teaching Practice (TP) as it is very difficult to arrange alternate TP times. You will normally have roughly three hours of input for each day of the course schedule.

Teaching practice is usually held in the evenings and each lesson lasts for 60 minutes. Trainees either team-teach or observe these classes. When teaching, trainees are observed by qualified staff; feedback is given after each class, usually on the following day.

  • What can I expect during teaching practice?

Expand thin line on white background

Lessons are delivered to students aged 16 years and older. The vast majority of students are Spanish but other nationalities do attend some classes. Class size varies from one-to-one lessons up to 16 students. Lessons are based upon real teaching resources found all over the world and you will have the chance to create your own materials as well. You will receive the aid of your course trainer throughout lesson planning and receive feedback on your lesson after it’s been delivered. Practicum is assessed and a satisfactory assessment is required to earn your TEFL/TESOL certificate.

  • Who usually attends the course?

Expand thin line on white background

We average 24 trainees on each course. The majority of trainees are British or American, while many others come from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, South Africa and the Philippines. Occasionally, we do get fluent non-native English speakers from Western Europe, Scandinavia, India, China, Thailand, etc. Trainees must be 18 years of age or older and the age range varies greatly depending on the course.

  • Is there a dress code?

Expand thin line on white background

During trainees’ lessons, casual attire is allowed. There are specific dress requirements that adhere to the local Spanish culture and basic ideas of professionalism. All trainees are expected to dress ‘casually smart’. Visible tattoos and piercings are not acceptable. ‘Office standard’ hairstyles and coloring are also required.

  • What should I bring for course studies?

Expand thin line on white background

Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. You may also want to bring a recording device, a digital Dictaphone or a smart phone would be ideal. We encourage you to bring a laptop as we have Wi-Fi at the training center. It is also a good idea to bring a thumb drive (data stick). We will provide all course materials for you so there is no need to bring anything else for the course itself.
