The School

Our TEFL training center in Colombia is located in the municipality of Chía, just 20 minutes by car or bus from Bogotá, the capital of the country. The school is located in front of the main road with easy access to several shopping centers and malls, surrounded by restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, and is only a 5-minute walk from Ospina Park, Old Historic Town Square, and the Historic District. The school has 12 classrooms and is fully equipped with internet, TV and video facilities, whiteboards, student and teacher resource centers, and a library with a wide range of teaching resource materials. Because the school is also a language institute with a focus on English courses for Spanish speakers and Spanish courses for foreigners, your English teaching practice will be with real Spanish speaking students so that you can experience authentic language lessons. Our TEFL trainers have extensive experience in teaching English to young people and adults. Current government plans for bilingualism in Colombia meant that the demand for teachers of English is quite high, which will allow you to get an English teaching job very easily in public or private schools, and language institute throughout the country.

Accommodation

We have several options for your accommodation in Chía. We offer comfortable rooms with shared bathroom, rooms with private bathrooms, hotels up to 3 stars, or stays in family homes, for those who want to immerse themselves in the culture and learn Spanish faster.

We have accommodation to suit all budgets and tastes. The price of the course includes accommodation in a comfortable private room with shared bathroom in the school’s apartment complex. These rooms are located just 10-minutes walk from the school or 5 minutes by bike (the school rents bicycles). The lodging is in a quiet, safe area and is surrounded by restaurants and supermarkets. The price of the course does not include food, but the apartment has a fully equipped kitchen for students to prepare their own meals, although there are many inexpensive restaurants surrounding the apartment and in the area.

• What does the tuition for the program include?

  Total tuition: $ 1795.00USD

  It includes:

  $ 600.00USD non-refundable initial deposit

  $ 1195.00USD final payment. This price includes tuition, course materials, certification, lodging in shared apartment with private room and shared bathroom, transportation to and from the airport. No food or airline tickets are included.

• What are the payment options?

  Course deposit of must be paid to our administrative center. Credit/debit card payments are the fastest and cheapest way to pay, but we also accept payments via Western Union, Pay Pal and bank transfer. While there are no deadlines for a deposit, courses can fill up quickly and your seat will only be reserved after the deposit has been paid.

  Once you make your deposit, you will receive an email with an informational packet that provides detailed information about the course, Colombia, and Chía itself.

  The balance of course fees is payable via credit card before, or on the first day of the course. Bank transfers are also accepted but must be completed at least two weeks before the first day of the course.

  Course fees are all-inclusive, so you won’t be asked to pay additional costs for course related materials or services. This also includes course moderation, accreditation fees and lifetime job assistance.

• What is an average program day like?

  Classes generally begin at 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., you will be learning all the aspects that will make you successful in the classroom. From 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., you will be preparing to teach and preparing the corresponding materials for your students. From 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., during the first two weeks, you will be observing experienced teachers in real classroom environments and in the final two weeks, you will gain teaching practice by teaching real students under the supervision of experienced teachers and TEFL trainers.

• How many students on average are in the program each month?

  The maximum number of TEFL students per course will be 8 students. Most of the participants are from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and non-native speakers who have a C1 certificate of English proficiency.

• What daes teaching practice involve?

  Because the training center is also a language school, we have many local students for the teaching practice sessions. Colombian students are friendly and enthusiastic and are very motivated to learn English. There will be students from universities with a high degree of education, professionals from companies and students who want to improve their opportunities at work or who want to live or study abroad.

• What is the program accommodation like? Where is it located?

  For obvious reasons, our most popular accommodation choice is our free accommodation included in the cost of our program. You will have a private bedroom and shared bathroom, with access to shared kitchen facilities (where you can cook for yourself), shared living room, and shared dining room areas with free Internet. The apartments are a ten-minute walk from the school, in a comfortable and private place, with all the amenities an apartment in the city offers. You will have nearby shops, drugstores, stores and everything is within reach in a few minutes. There are many restaurants nearby with good Colombian food and there are also sports centers and gyms nearby.

  Hotels and home stays are also available and can be arranged prior to your arrival. There are numerous hotels in the area with varying prices.

  Your accommodation is available from 1:00 p.m. on the Saturday before the course begins through to 5:00 p.m. on the Friday of the final week. We hope you will plan to arrive in Colombia by Saturday as this will give you a chance to relax and get accustomed to your surroundings before the course begins.

• What travel documents will I need for Colombia?

  All visitors to Colombia are required to carry a passport valid for at least six months after their arrival date. Visitors to Colombia from the United Kingdom, North America, Australia and New Zealand can stay in Colombia for a maximum of 90 days with a tourist visa. If you wish to stay and work in Colombia, your employer will assist you with obtaining a work permit.*

• Is there a dress code?

  For all input and tutorial sessions at the training location, there is only one specific dress requirement: Both men and women should have a shirt covering their shoulders. The course operates from within a school, so we ask you to be mindful of this, as well as being mindful of your peers and to respect the fact that you are a visitor in another country.

  During teaching practice there are specific requirements that adhere to the local dress code. All trainees are expected to dress professionally according to the following guidelines:

  Women: Shoulders should be covered, blouses with sleeves are suggested. No low-cut necklines, very short skirts or bare midriffs. Open-toed shoes are acceptable, but not flip-flop or sandals.

  Men: Long pants, slacks or trousers are required, jeans are acceptable. Short or long-sleeved shirts with a collar are necessary, although a tie is not required. Loafers or dress shoes are both fine, sandals are not acceptable. Long hair should always be tied back.

• What do I need to bring for the course?

  Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. We also encourage you to bring a laptop as we have Wi-Fi at the training center. We will provide all course materials for you so there is no need to bring anything else for the course itself.
