What are the different ITTT TESOL certificate levels?
At ITTT we have developed our own course level framework to ensure it is easy for everyone to compare all our different courses options. Our framework is based on the same criteria as most other recognized systems and it runs from level 3 to level 7. The basic criteria used to build our course level framework includes the type of certification involved, the number of average study hours, whether there is any practical training, and whether it is full or part time.
Level 3 courses or below are typically seen as entry-level qualifications that are mainly aimed at those who are looking for an insight into language teaching or trainees who plan to work as teaching assistants or volunteers. Level 5 courses and above are designed to give you an understanding of EFL teaching that is at a level above what employers expect when filling mainstream entry-level teaching positions. Teachers with classroom experience and a high-level qualification can expect to have plenty of job options that might offer more than average pay or a higher level of responsibility.
What is a level 4 TESOL qualification?
Level 4 TEFL qualifications are considered the minimum requirement when applying for mainstream teaching jobs in most parts of the world. With this level of certification you can confidently send off your CV/resume and expect to get some positive feedback as employers like to see their job applicants have completed at least 100 hours of study. At ITTT, our 120-hour TEFL certification course is our most popular option as it provides all the basic skills and knowledge needed by novice teachers and it is seen as the equivalent of the first year of a university degree. With this level of teaching certificate you will be ready to start teaching in schools and language centers in countries worldwide, as well as on many of the most popular online teaching platforms.
What about higher levels of TEFL?
Although level 4 qualifications are typically enough to get your teaching journey underway, many trainees choose to take a higher level of study to ensure they are ready to move up the employment ladder once they have gained some real teaching experience. At ITTT we have several options at levels 5 to level 7 that will still provide all the basic understanding you need, plus additional knowledge and qualifications that employers look for when advertising more senior teaching roles. By completing a Diploma in TESOL, or one of our great value multi-course bundles you will be even better placed when applying for the best jobs in the best locations.
